Thousands of Vehicles Still Being Recalled by NHTSA for a Multitude of Defects

The Law Offices of John C. Manoog III

As you may remember, 2015 was rife with vehicle recalls. According to news reports, there were in the neighborhood of 900 recalls in all, affecting tens of millions of vehicles. Issues such as sudden acceleration, faulty ignition switches, and Volkswagen’s infamous cheating on certain emissions tests made headlines throughout the year.

Although there have been fewer recalls thus far in 2016, that does not necessarily mean that manufacturers have stopped making vehicles with significant flaws. Quite the contrary.

Winnebagos and Itascas Recalled Due to Potential Loose Seat Bolts

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has recently issued a recall of certain model year 2017 Winnebago View and Itasca Navion motorhomes due to an issue with the bolts in the front seats (both driver and passenger). If these issues are not corrected, the seats could detach, endangering both the occupants of the vehicle and others on the road.

According to a safety recall report, a single individual has been identified as having been responsible for the improperly torqued bolts. Approximately 816 vehicles are potentially affected by the recall.

Jaguars Could Have Fuel Leaks or Faulty Bolts

Also on the recent recall list are certain 2013-2015 Jaguar XF vehicles that may have insufficient clearance between the underfloor fuel delivery lines and the under shield and body. The problem could allow the fuel lines to chafe, which in turn could increase the risk of a fire.

About 5,081 vehicles may be affected by this issue. Jaguar has agreed to inspect the fuel lines of the subject vehicles for abrasions and replace them as necessary. The company will also install additional clips at no charge.

In a separate recall, Jaguar is recalling certain model year 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR vehicles. The affected vehicles could have safety issues concerning the bolts in the rear lower control arms. A premature failure of these bolts could cause the rear control arm assembly to separate from the vehicle. If this happens, the driver could lose control and possibly crash.

Other Recent Recalls

The NHTSA issues recalls on a regular basis, sometimes several in one week. Other motor vehicles that have recently been the subjects of recalls include 2015-2016 Holiday Rambler Vacationer motorhomes (front truss may not be adequately supported, possibly leading to a fire or crash), 2017 Jay Sport camping trailers (possible tire pressure misinformation), and 2010-11 Mazda Tributes (potential fuel leak could cause a fire).
